Description
A remarkable winter landscape, Riverbank in Winter, by the Russian artist Boris Vasilyevich Bessonov (1862-1934), revealing a poetic vision of Russian nature immersed in the silence of winter. Snow-covered riverbanks, slender fir trees reflected in the calm surface of the water, and the soft evening light create an atmosphere of harmony, tranquillity and contemplation. The artist masterfully conveys the unique state of nature at the transition between the cold of winter and the approaching renewal of spring. The cool palette of blue, silvery and grey tones of the snow is enriched by delicate pink reflections of the setting sun, giving the composition remarkable depth and emotional expression. The central motif of the work is the river, whose mirror-like surface enhances the sense of spatial perspective and reflects the majestic silhouettes of the trees. Bessonov combines precise realistic observation with a refined lyrical perception of nature, continuing the finest traditions of the Russian landscape school of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Signature: Signed by the artist. Dimensions: Canvas: 63 x 80 cm. Material: Oil on canvas. Provenance: Rayner MacConnell, Bond Street, London.
