Description
Figurative Abstract Painting by Roberto Rosabal Cuban-American Artist
Offered for sale is a figurative abstract painting on paper by Cuban-American artist Roberto Rosabal. The painting is signed and dated in the lower right. It is displayed in a wood frame, and the art is under glass.
Roberto Rosabal (born José Ángel Rosabal Fajardo, 1935) is a significant Cuban abstract artist, known as a member of the pioneering Diez Pintores Concretos (Ten Concrete Painters) group in the 1950s, focusing on geometric abstraction in painting, drawing, and engraving; later working as a textile designer and continuing his prolific career in the U.S. after immigrating, he is recognized internationally for his contributions to concrete art.
Diez Pintores Concreto was a key figure in this influential group that championed non-representational, geometric art in Cuba during the late 1950s. His work involves painting, drawing, and engraving, often featuring structured, abstract compositions, as seen in works like Fuente de Luz (Fountain of Light).
After leaving Cuba, Rosabal continued his artistic pursuits, working as a painter and textile designer, maintaining his commitment to concrete art. He has received international acclaim, including the prestigious Bugatti-Segantini Career Prize in 2016, marking the first time the award went to a non-Italian artist.
His art is held in major museums worldwide, including the Centre Pompidou, LACMA, and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, as noted by ARTIZAR. -
