Berlin has always maintained his hand is an independent entity and the paintings he produces with it are unique and not within his control, they unfold onto the canvas. He fondly calls it his “Billion Dollar Hand”. The title of this work indicates the separate nature of his hand, Self Portrait with……… rather than the more usual Self Portrait. The hand is portrayed as almost a combination of hand and brush and is a glimpse into Berlin’s artistic psyche.
