Illustrated in Nineteenth-Century Folk Paintings: Our Spirited National Heritage, Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Tillou, plate # 124.
As so well described by Kathleen Foster, written in a 2008 exhibition catalogue for the Philadelphia Museum, “Chambers was a self-taught artist who operated in the zone between folk and fine art (and) was the country’s first modern artist. “This rare winter scene captures Chambers unique style of painting, “with cartoon like energy and rhythmic sense of design to appeal to modern taste.”
