Tom Henderson continues his investigation into transparency, surface, and spatial depth by pairing classical painting mediums with contemporary synthetic supports. In his oil paint on cast acrylic works, Henderson establishes a rigid, grid-like composition constructed from tiled square panels saturated in rich monochrome blue. Within this structure, energetic, gestural brushstrokes create a textured, luminous field that interacts dynamically with the smooth surface of the acrylic. Interspersed throughout the grid are solid, flat blue squares, forming a subtle geometric rhythm across the expressive background. By allowing light to pass through the paint and translucent plastic, Henderson transforms a minimalist grid into a radiant, multi-dimensional visual experience.
