Description
Tom McGlynn is an American abstract artist, independent curator, and writer based in the New York area. Holding an MFA from Hunter College and serving as an Editor-at-Large for The Brooklyn Rail, McGlynn’s work is held in prestigious public collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
His practice sits at the intersection of geometric abstraction and social semiotics, drawing inspiration from urban signage, architectural proportions, and commercial media. In his paintings, floating, unattached color blocks suspended on neutral fields transform everyday visual signals into clean, harmonious arrangements—exploring how color, scale, and negative space shape our perception. -
