Description
Large Landscape View of an Inlet and Native American Encampment.
Signed and dated (l.l.): Hanington/78 (1878).
Oil on canvas.
35”h x 45w”, 40 ½”h x 50 ½” w with frame.
Excellent condition, virtually untouched with original frame now painted white.
William Hanington and his brother Henry began as commercial painters in New York City about 1832. There are records listing William as a “transparent and decorative painter” in the 1870’s. Very few paintings of William Hanington are known to date. -
