Description
Illustration Star Wilson McLean executes a 1970s male fashion assignment that is situated at the intersection of realism and abstraction. Four male models are depicted with a tight vertical cropping and are uniformly spaced on a grid-like composition. The artist crops most of the subject's face to emphasize the "Groovy" shirts and ties. Look closely at each close-up of the shirt and tie in itself; they are mini abstract masterpieces with an ultra-high level of detail in their execution. Pulling from recent art history, Wilson McLean's work may indirectly pay homage to the late Italian artist Domenico Gnoli—initialed lower left. This artwork appeared on pages 126-127 of the February 1973 issue of Playboy Magazine, illustrating the fashion article by Robert L. Green titled "Team Spirit," with the caption "In the shirt game, ties count."
Framed in the original metal frame to a frame size of 28.88 x 21 x 1.25
Color will vary depending on how the art is displayed and under what lighting conditions. -
