Description
Aquatints with stipple-engraving, part-printed in colour and finished by hand, in fine condition with strong fresh colour. Framed in perspex, overall size: 59.5 by 70cm. Overall dimensions of the leaf: 44.5 x 56.5 cm.
For Brookshaw's most famous work "Pomona Britannica" or a "Collection of the Most Esteemed Fruits at Present Cultivated in this Country; Together with the Blossoms and Leaves of Such that are Necessary to Distinguish the Various Sorts from Each Other. Selected principally from the Royal Gardens at Hampton Court and the remainder from the Most Celebrated Gardens around London". “Pomona Britannica” stands apart from other botanical books with their dry, academic depictions of scientific specimens in its use of warm, dark aquatinted backgrounds in dramatic contrast to the vivid colours and texture of the living fruit. - More Information
