Description
Pair of hand-colored botanical engravings of chrysanthemums and sunflowers by Johann Wilhelm Weinman (1683-1741), from Phytanthoza Iconographia 1737, in gilded frames with double linen mounts. Titles are in Latin and German.
Johann Weinmann was an apothecary, pharmacist and botanist in Regensburg, Germany. His composition and style of the botanical studies are scientific and beautifully decorative. He used mezzotint to achieve subtle tonal variations of leaves and flower petals.
