Description
From the private collection of a Texas art connoisseur, this rare set comprises all four framed limited European edition lithographs from Salvador Dalí’s 1978 Retrospective Suite. Each piece is pencil signed and numbered by Dalí, published by Levine & Levine for DALART, and printed on fine Arches or Japon paper. Together, they embody Dalí’s surrealist mastery, blending myth, allegory, and dreamlike imagery.
Individual Works
* The Agony of Love (1978) A surreal composition often referred to as The Unicorn, this lithograph explores the torment and ecstasy of passion. Dalí juxtaposes mythological symbolism with dreamlike forms, creating a striking allegory of love’s dual nature.
* The Lance of Chivalry (1978) Inspired by the legend of Saint George and the Dragon, this lithograph celebrates valor and honor. Dalí’s surrealist interpretation transforms the medieval tale into a fantastical vision, with bold imagery that merges myth and modernity.
* The Flowering of Inspiration (1978) Known also as Gala in Flowers, this lithograph depicts a figure crowned with a radiant bouquet bursting into bloom. It symbolizes the flourishing of creativity and imagination, fusing natural elements with human form in Dalí’s signature surrealist style.
* The Path to Wisdom (1978) A contemplative work featuring a surreal desert landscape and a head with drawers — a recurring Dalí motif symbolizing hidden knowledge. This lithograph reflects Dalí’s fascination with the subconscious and the pursuit of enlightenment.
