Description
This elegant antique French gilt and polished bronze bust sculpture of a woman was crafted in Paris during the 19th century by the renowned foundry of Ferdinand Barbedienne (1821–1902), one of France's most celebrated bronze founders. Beautifully executed, the sculpture depicts a graceful woman dressed in period attire, her refined facial features complemented by an intricately styled coiffure that reflects the elegance and fashion of the era. The rich gilt and polished bronze finish has developed a fine patina over time, enhancing its warmth and character.
Known for producing museum-quality bronzes with exceptional precision and artistry, Barbedienne's foundry was internationally recognized for its superior craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail. Every element of this bust, from the delicately modeled facial expression to the finely rendered drapery and hairstyle, demonstrates the outstanding quality that made Ferdinand Barbedienne one of the most respected bronze founders of the 19th century.
Standing approximately 23 inches high, 14 inches wide, and 9.75 inches deep, this impressive sculpture has a commanding presence while remaining versatile enough to be displayed on a pedestal, console, mantel, library shelf, or entryway table. Its timeless design allows it to complement traditional, classical, eclectic, and even contemporary interiors, making it a sophisticated focal point and an exceptional conversation piece.
The sculpture is stamped on the reverse by the foundry, confirming its authenticity. It is in good condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, and retains its beautiful original patina. This is a remarkable example of 19th-century French bronze artistry and a wonderful addition to any fine art or antique collection. - More Information
