Hippolyte Moreau’s statuette of the Greek figure Hero sitting on her tower is an example of the late 19th and early 20th century revival in Classical Greek culture.
Pensively resting with her hand grazing her chin, Hero remains at her post as a priestess of Aphrodite while she contemplates where her missing lover Leander could be after failing to swim to her for their usual nightly tryst. -
