Fully authenticated as a work by Nicolino Calyo, this scene, titled at the bottom by the artist, depicts a rare view of Niagara Falls from the Ferry. This finely executed work is complimented with a strong color palette.
Nicolino Vicompte Calyo was born in Naples, Italy, where he studied art—specifically landscape techniques and traditions. In 1834 he settled in the US and began holding exhibitions of his work in Baltimore, Philadelphia and ultimately New York. Calyo often worked on location, making watercolor and gouache landscape sketches wherever he traveled.
