  • Description
    Peter Casteels III, the son of Peter Casteels I, was born in Antwerp, and joined his father’s studio to train as an artist. He came to London in 1708 and stayed for three years, returning to Antwerp in 1712. He returned to England later in his career to work again, and he died in Richmond in 1749. He became one of the twelve directors of Sir Godfrey Kneller’s Academy of Painting in 1711. This work is representative of what he was most well known, painter of flowers, animals, and detailed still lives. The museum of Lübeck has one of his still lives with flowers.
