Spalted Maple Bed with Integrated Nightstands

This Queen-sized bed has a spalted maple headboard and integrated nightstands. The removable nightstands slide into grooves in the headboard and are secured with a wedge as shown in attached video. A cutout/slot at the back edge of the nightstand, against the headboard, allows for wires to pass down through. Butterfly joints secure the checks at the butt end (left side) of the slab headboard adding still more interest and character to the handsome 1 1/2" thick piece of wood . The base and rails of the bed are maple tinted to match the darker tones or heartwood of the slab headboard. The whole piece can be knocked down into individual parts; this was essential for its installation in a room up a narrow stairway in a Boston brownstone where it now cohabitates nicely with the Spalted Maple Desk that I designed and built for this same client and that is also listed here on Incollect.
