French 18th Century Louis XIII-Style Walnut Buffet
-
Description
This incredible Louis XIII-Style walnut buffet, c. 1780, is from France and boasts exuberant, beautifully executed hand-carving throughout. The step-carved surface is more narrow than the base, measuring 62-1/4?W x 21-3/8?D, and sits above a pair of deep, drawers with hand-wrought steel ring pulls and having leaf-and-branch carving. The naturalistic carving continues with a carved floral-and-foliate motif which extends to the base on the frontal sides and down the center. Below the drawers are a pair of doors, with hand-wrought steel barrel hinges and escutcheon with key, in which each display a deeply-carved geometric four-leaf clover design and open to reveal a roomy interior with a single removable shelf for ample storage options. The sides of this case piece are deeply paneled and the whole rests on a wide step-carved base on turned bun feet. This bold buffet will add a strong element of French Provincial style to any kitchen or dining space and is sure to serve future generations of the family!
