Description
Exceptionally large and rare lacquer cabinet. According to the heraldry, visible on the headgear in one of the panels, it was made for the Inaba family, a high ranking Daimyo family, native of Mino and descended from Kono Michitaka. The extensive use of military motives on the various panels strongly suggest an important Samurai-family origin.
The use of various present lacquer techniques, including red cinnabar adorned with panels of raised black and gold lacquer, could point to the Shibayama school of lacquer artists. -
