Description
Antique gilt bronze and Sevres style porcelain floor standing lamp
French, late 19th Century
Height 186cm, width 41cm, depth 41cm
This French floor standing lamp- tall, slender and sophisticated- is crafted of Sevres style porcelain and extensively mounted with intricately cast gilt bronze.
The lamp body is crafted as an ovoid form porcelain vase, which is delicately painted with a whimsical, Rococo style depiction of a woman playing with a charming winged putto on a white ground. The vase features scrolling gilt decorations, and is mounted with gilt bronze about the neck and socle base. The top of the vase is fitted as a lamp, and features a luminous frosted glass shade in the form of a sphere, which is decorated with shell motifs and scrolling patterns.
The base of the vase is mounted onto a tall, slender, gilt bronze stand. The upper section of the stand is formed as a circular plinth support which is mounted with lion masks joined at the mouths with swags on egg and dart casting. Leading downward, the stand divides into three, elegantly curved legs which are decorated with foliage and beading along their lengths, and terminate in paw feet. The legs are joined in the centre by a circular platform inset with a decorative porcelain plaque, and near the feet with a leaf-form stretcher, with pine cone finial.
