Description
This exquisite Art Deco pâte de verre glass pendant chandelier, signed Muller Frères and created in France circa 1930, is a breathtaking example of the elegance and innovation that defined the Art Deco era. Pairing bold design with unparalleled craftsmanship, this chandelier highlights the expert use of colored glass and ornamental metalwork to create a piece at once functional and strikingly artistic.
The pendant features a captivating pâte de verre glass bowl, showcasing Muller Frères’ mastery of this complex glassmaking technique. The translucent glass is rendered in vibrant hues of blue and smoked honey, blending with painterly precision to create a dramatic ombré effect. This intricate use of color exemplifies the bold, geometric sensibility of the Art Deco movement while also paying homage to natural elements, evoking a fiery sunset or shifting skies.
Suspended by elegant leaf-form wrought iron fittings, the chandelier seamlessly marries the organic with the industrial—hallmarks of Art Deco design. The hand-forged ironwork, delicately shaped into stylized leaves, forms a sculptural framework around the vibrant glass centerpiece, lending the fixture a sense of movement and depth. These details reflect the meticulous craftsmanship of Muller Frères, one of the premier French glassmakers of the early 20th century, celebrated for their innovative designs and expert artistry. Signed on the outer edge of the shade denoting the maker. Height can be adjusted to suit. Newly rewired to American Standards, this chandelier accommodates three candelabra base bulbs achieving up to 180 watts of light. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
