Description
This exquisite Art Deco Machine Age chandelier was realized in France by the legendary atelier of Petitot circa 1935. It features a skyscraper style base with two tiers secured by an orbital finial. The upper tier features dramatically channeled and scalloped sides. Five curvilinear supports with skyscraper style cubist streamlined motifs (reiterating the form of the arms) extend from the two tiers of increasing diameter that crown the base culminating in cupped glass shades. The shades offer striated necks and concave bodies with raised textured translucent glass bands in a starburst pattern emanating from the center and dappled frosted glass surrounds all in beautiful bronze. The neck of the chandelier features undulating curvlinear supports that connect to a conical canopy. With its quintessential art deco forms, recalling the decor from the iconic film "Metropolis", this piece is sure to delight discerning collectors of the period as well as those with a penchant for rare and superb objects. It accommodates six candelabra based bulbs offering up to 240 watts of light. The chandelier has been newly rewired to American standards and is in excellent vintage condition. The height can be adjusted to suit.
