Description
A poetic and highly tactile pair of handcrafted ceramic wall sconces by French ceramicist Claudia Cauville. Sculptural in form and rich in surface variation, these rare works embody the expressive material language of contemporary French ceramic lighting.
Each vertically oriented sconce is formed as a softly rounded rectangular column with a deeply carved central recess. Within the concave cavity, layered glazes bloom in painterly washes of ivory, sand, cobalt blue, and umber, creating cratered crystalline textures and subtle crackle reminiscent of mineral formations or atmospheric landscapes. The exterior surfaces retain an earthy finish with nuanced tonal shifts, enhancing the hand-built character of the pieces.
When illuminated, the recessed interiors catch and reflect light beautifully, emphasizing the depth of the glaze and sculptural contours.
Stamped underside with maker's mark.
These pieces are ceramic decorations meant to be applied on existing light sources -
