The Shavings Sphere by Theophane Ingold wraps a translucent orb in fine shavings—a second skin laid down layer by layer. Where they begin, they arrange themselves in order; as they curve around the form, they tighten, interweave, and contort, approaching chaos. To move around the piece is to pass between two states: structure and turbulence, geometry and accident. Light reveals this tension—what seemed smooth and simple becomes dense, layered, and alive: a rounded presence, outwardly calm, threaded with internal movement.
