Description
Daum Nancy Art Deco Globe Iron Table Lamp Circa 1925 signed L Katona
Item #3588
Art Deco acid-etched French Globe Iron Table Lamp by Daum and Katona. This beautiful and unusual lamp is crafted in the “pate de verre” technique of thick glass heavily etched and carved in geometric, stylized pattern accented with hand-made ironwork. The base is a custom design with leaves and the round shade lights up and emits a beautiful amber color.
The shade signed by Daum + Nancy France (cross of Lorraine), wheel engraved, etched glass is an outstanding shape made to accommodate the iron base. Daum is a renowned glassmaker from Nancy, France, known for their exquisite craftsmanship and innovative glass techniques. This lamp is crafted using the “pate de verre” technique, which involves thick glass that is heavily etched and carved to create a geometric and stylized pattern. This technique gives the glass a unique and textured appearance.
French fer forge of the highest quality. Contemporary of Edgar Brandt, Raymond Subes, and Paul Kiss, this iron lamp is signed on the base by designer Louis Katona
The Daum company began in 1878 and rose to prominence at the turn of the century winning the Medal of Honor in 1900. The techniques of ” pate de verre “, of acid etching, and the embrace of Art Nouveau styling made Daum one of the world’s most popular and important glass companies. Daum, and its rival Lalique, were the French masters that did so much to elevate the art of glass and to establish the rise of “Art Deco” design through the ‘teens, the 1920s and 1930s.
