Description
French Art Nouveau glass lamp attributed to Daum
French, c. 1900
Height 38cm, diameter 18cm
The desire of the Art Nouveau artists to emulate natural forms is brought out brilliantly in this mushroom-shaped lamp. The lamp's design has been attributed to the French glass workshop Daum, founded in 1878 by Jean Daum, perhaps one of the most iconic makers of the Art Nouveau period. The glass has been acid etched and wheel carved, and radiates a beautiful burnt orange light when illuminated. This is a stunning period piece which is as relevant today as it was over 100 years ago.
