Description
This pair of wall lamps by the German company Doria, is a striking example of mid-20th century design that blends industrial materials with sculptural elegance. The futuristic look is achieved through the simple yet smart design of the silhouette. Crafted from steel, the design is streamlined, yet has the edge of mid-century modernism. The geometric shape is also very effective in showcasing the juxtaposition between light and shadow.
These lamps belong to the Space Age design era, a unique style that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s. It features novel, inventive aesthetics that are both practical and visually appealing. The use of geometric shapes and sleek lines characterise the style, and the blending of these elements creates an otherworldly atmosphere that is both trendy and functional, as this pair showcases. German designers of this era were also influenced by the broader contemporary European trends, including the Danish and Italian modernist movements. There was also a strong influence from the avant-garde and the counterculture movements, which encouraged experimentation and the breaking of traditional design norms. These lamps were conceived during this period of dynamic innovation, a time when materials like steel were celebrated for their lightness and modern appeal. The square, boxy shape of the pair speaks to the geometric influence of the era, and highlights the uniqueness of the set.
The masterful combination of materials, aesthetic and functional design, combined with expert craftsmanship is indisputable in this model. The impression of this pair is fresh with a retro touch, and completely alluring with its dedication to quality and practicality.
