A Large French Mid-Century Modern Gilt Iron Crown or Sunburst Pendant / Chandelier / Flush Mount in the spirit of the legendary French ironworker, Gilbert Poillerat, circa 1940. This enchanting piece is composed gilt iron acanthus leaves arranged in a circular format to form an elegant crown or sunburst form. The leaves were gilt but age has allowed them to mellow to a beautiful, natural patina. The fixture is designed for 3 standard Edison sockets which can provide good light. This piece has a large 19.75" diameter which allows it to function as a chandelier, pendant or flush mount fixture. The Height of the fixture alone without any hanging chain or pipe is 7”. The fixture can extend from the ceiling from 10" to 48" using chains or a pipe, depending on aesthetic and functional needs of the project.
Gilbert Poillerat was the most important ironworker / designer / metal fabricator in France during the 1940 period. He worked almost entirely by commission creating many unique works and his creations. are sought after by collectors of French decorative arts.
