Description
A sculptural and uncommon pair of French wall sconces by Guillerme et Chambron, created in France during the 1970s. These expressive fixtures embody the designers' signature balance of robust craftsmanship, natural materials, and architectural presence.
Each sconce is constructed in richly grained solid oak with beautifully turned and carved geometric elements supporting a cylindrical linen shade. At the center sits a hand-finished glazed ceramic cup in deep green-black tones, adding a striking artisanal contrast to the warmth of the wood. The interplay of oak, ceramic, and textile gives the design a refined rustic-modern sensitivity characteristic of the French decorative movement of the period.
When illuminated, the linen shades emit a warm diffused glow, while the open cut-outs create subtle accents of light.
A rare and collectible pair from one of the most important French design duos of the twentieth century.
Robert Guillerme (1913–1990) and Jacques Chambron (1914–2001) formed one of the most distinctive partnerships in postwar French design. Working primarily through their company Vos Maison, the duo developed furniture and lighting celebrated for its strong architectural forms, visible craftsmanship, and warm material palette.
Their work often employed solid oak, leather, ceramic, and hand-finished textiles, blending traditional joinery with modernist structure. Unlike the sleek industrial modernism of many contemporaries, Guillerme and Chambron embraced tactile surfaces and expressive proportions, creating interiors with enduring warmth and character.
Today, their original vintage pieces are highly sought after internationally and are considered icons of twentieth-century French design. -
