Description
A beautiful T-526 chandelier designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Markaryd during the 1960s. Though modest in scale, the piece carries the refined character that defines Jakobsson’s lighting: a careful balance of material warmth, soft illumination, and sculptural clarity.
The chandelier features a turned wooden central column finished in a light natural white tone, from which elegantly curved brass arms extend outward. Each arm supports a perforated brass shade whose delicate pattern of small holes allows light to escape gently through the metal surface. When illuminated, the shades create a subtle constellation of light, one of Jakobsson’s signature approaches to achieving atmosphere rather than direct glare. A feature reminding us of Paavo Tynell's lighting also
The contrast between the warm brass, the soft wood core, and the rhythmic curvature of the arms gives the chandelier a light and almost jewelry-like presence. Its relatively compact proportions make it particularly suitable for more intimate interiors — above a dining table, in a smaller room, or as a refined focal point in an entry or sitting area.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) established his company in Markaryd, Sweden in 1951 after earlier working for Carl Malmsten and Werner West. His work quickly became recognized for its atmospheric quality, emphasizing warm diffused light through carefully treated materials such as brass, wood, glass, and textiles. Today Jakobsson’s lighting remains an important part of Scandinavian mid-century design.
This example remains in very good vintage condition with a beautiful patina to the brass and well-preserved wooden elements. The canopy has a small hole to the edge that does not affect use. -
