Model "V-220" Brass Wall Lamp by Hans-Agne Jakobsson, Sweden 1960s

While Hans-Agne Jakobsson designed and produced various types of furniture, his lighting received greater international attention - and not without good reason. As this “V-220” wall lamp showcases, the Swedish designer was a master of both the direction and colour of his lighting designs.

With a brass frame holding a tinted glass shade, this lamp clearly shows the Jakobsson’s studies in architecture, with beautiful geometric forms and symmetry dominating the structures. The lamp is a wall-mounted lighting fixture, traditionally used to hold candles or torches. This wall lamp additionally has a structural design that is reminiscent of a torch. The glass is transparent, letting the brass and light bulb show, further enhancing the torch-like look. The simple design is clean with a straightforwardly modern look. Thanks to the combination of the two materials, this wall lamp is brilliant in its simplicity. The prowess of the designer becomes evident as this model stands as a statement piece despite its minimalism.
