Description
This pair of candlesticks, model L-40, designed and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1960s, showcases the elegant simplicity and refined craftsmanship of mid-century Swedish design. Each candlestick features a cylindrical brass base supporting an elongated glass shade in a warm amber tone. The design reflects Jakobsson’s expertise in creating atmospheric lighting, with the amber glass designed to diffuse candlelight softly and evenly, contributing to a cozy and inviting ambiance.
The brass bases have developed a rich patina over time, presenting subtle variations in tone and surface texture that add depth and character to the pieces. This aging process is typical of vintage brass and enhances the overall aesthetic without compromising the structural integrity. The glass shades are well preserved, showing minimal signs of wear and retaining their clarity and warm coloration.
The candlesticks measure 9 cm in diameter and 29 cm in height (approximately 3.5 by 11.4 inches), providing a slender and elongated silhouette that complements a variety of interior settings. Their balanced proportions and harmonious combination of materials exemplify the Scandinavian modern emphasis on function and understated beauty. Overall, this pair is representative of Jakobsson’s mid-century lighting production, where craftsmanship and design merge seamlessly.
