Helge Zimdal Brass "Löken" Ceiling Lights, Sweden 1970s

Lök(en), or “onion” in English, is a lighting model with an iconic shape. Helge Zimdal was a Swedish architect and professor of architecture, a background that is clearly mirrored in the ingenious design of these lamps.

These "Onion" pendants, manufactured by Falkenbergs Belysning AB quickly became a success, and understandably; the organic shape combined with high quality materials and craftsmanship is typical Swedish design, and makes this model one of the most beloved pendants from the Scandinavian Modern era. The sculptural design has a characteristically organic ceiling cup executed in polished brass, internally lacquered white. Each and every feature is equally in service of both function and for, fulfilling the most fundamental Scandinavian design principal of the mid-century era. In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Small marks on the brass; visible marks and scratches on the inside lacquer.
