Ingo Maurer worked first as a printer between Germany and Switzerland, he completed then his graphic design studies in Munich in 1958, he lived between New York and San Francisco working as an independent designer between 1960 and 1963. In 1960 he founded the company Design M, which later became Ingo Maurer GmbH: among the house's first creations is the Bulb table lamp (1966). Following this, the company would produce other lamps designed by Maurer himself, several of which would be included in the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Maurer earned several international awards: the Design Prize from the city of Munich (1999), the Primavera del Disseny in Barcelona (2001), and the Georg Jensen Prize in Copenhagen in 2003. In 2011 he was awarded the Compasso d'Oro Association for Industrial Design. In 2019, he died at the age of 87.
