Description
esigner: Jorn Utzon
Nordisk Solar
Denmark - Circa 1960s
Dimensions: 10.25" H x 17.25" DIA
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. New old stock.
Illuminate your space with a piece of design history—a vintage modern brass “Navy” pendant light, designed by none other than the legendary Jørn Utzon, the mastermind behind the iconic Sydney Opera House. Manufactured by Nordisk Solar in Denmark during the 1960s, Model 74422 showcases the same visionary spirit that made Utzon an architectural titan. These rare finds are currently available, with one pieces in stock.
Each pendant boasts an elegant hourglass silhouette, a sculptural form that commands attention. The exterior, a luxurious satin brass finish over spun aluminum, presents a subtle luster that enriches any room it graces. Contrasting beautifully, the matte white interior of the larger shade focuses light downwards, while the medium gray lower shade adds an understated sophistication to the piece.
Measuring at 17.25” in diameter and 10.25” in height, these pendants are generous in size yet impeccably balanced in proportion. And the integrity doesn't stop at aesthetics; the fixtures are engineered with an E26 porcelain socket and can accommodate a standard light bulb of up to 200 watts, ensuring brilliant illumination. A 6-foot white cord and a 5.25” diameter original white-painted canopy complete the installation package. (The white cord can easily be changed to a longer length or different color.)
What sets these pendants apart is their new-old-stock status. These lamps have never been used and have been meticulously preserved since the 1960s. They bear no chips, scratches, or signs of wear, serving as a testament to decades of careful storage.
Originally commissioned for Danish naval bases, owning one of these pendants isn't just a design choice—it’s an acquisition of a historical artifact. A light fixture that not only illuminates but also inspires, it’s a conversation starter that connects you to a unique moment in design history.
Invest in this limited-availability, pristine-condition “Navy” pendant and bring a luminous blend of history, function, and artistry into your home. Imagine these pendants gracing your space – individually or in a cluster. One is currently available, offering a unique opportunity to own a piece (or pieces) of Danish design legacy. Whether you're an aficionado of classic design or seeking to add a touch of vintage luxe to your interiors, the "Navy" pendant is a luminous blend of history, artistry, and illumination. -
