Description
A Remarkable Torch or Cone-Shaped Table Lamp, Attributed to Jacques Adnet,
French Circa 1955
This striking design, utilising a folded torch or cone-shaped linen shade is firmly attributed to Jacques Adnet. The lamp base makes use of some of his signature features such as the use of hand-stitched leather with contrasting stitching covering the internal metal frame for a combination of aesthetic beauty and performance. Adnet is known to have made use of leather from the firm of Hermès of Paris in many of his productions and certainly the leather used in this piece is of the level of quality one would associate with that house. The torch form shade was utilised by many modernist designers in Europe and America at this time but rarely in combination with a leather-trimmed frame as found here, further proof of Adnet's propensity for going above and beyond and finding luxury in utility.
The lamp has been entirely rewired and PAT tested and is ready for use in any home. A lovely accent for any interior.
Please do take a look at our other range of lighting including other lamps by or attributed to Adnet on our website.
Jacques Adnet(1900-1984)
Originally an interior designer, Adnet turned to designing furniture for his own projects in the 1950s and these designs won for him a lasting acclaim which continues to this day. Adnet was particularly famous for his use of leather in his designs, giving his pieces a sense of understated luxury, and the present lamps are typical of the quality of manufacture and design that were hallmarks of his productions.
