Originally sculpted in pine, Flame is a pair of sculptural lamps by Jacques Jarrige, later cast in bronze to preserve the vitality and tactile immediacy of the artist’s hand. Their undulating, anthropomorphic forms rise and twist with quiet intensity, evoking the flicker and movement of fire—fluid yet grounded, sensual yet elemental.



As in much of Jarrige’s work, the forms were first shaped by carving directly into wood—an intuitive, subtractive process where rhythm and gesture guide the emergence of volume. In Flame, this approach yields silhouettes that are at once abstract and corporeal—suggestive of limbs, waves, or dancing flames—imbued with a sense of inner animation.

Transformed into lamps, these forms take on a new function while retaining their sculptural force. Light emanates from within or around them, further activating the surface and amplifying their expressive presence. They become not just sources of illumination, but luminous figures—ritualistic, totemic, alive.



Flame is available in a black patina, in a version where the wood grain remains subtly visible through the bronze, or in a smooth, polished finish—each surface revealing a different dialogue between material memory and sculptural clarity.
