Description
This very rare ceiling lamp, designed by Lisa Johansson-Pape and produced by Stockmann-Orno in Finland during the 1950s, is a prime example of mid-century Scandinavian lighting design. The pendant light features three conical brass shades, each elegantly perforated with a decorative star-like pattern. This pattern not only adds a delicate design element but also helps diffuse light in a warm and atmospheric manner, contributing to a soft, inviting glow in the space.
The brass surfaces of the shades have a polished finish, enhancing the lamp’s refined yet functional aesthetic, which is a hallmark of Scandinavian modernism. The light is suspended from a sculptural brass ceiling cup, with three delicate arms that support the cords. These arms create a dynamic visual element, further enhancing the lamp’s elegant design and adding to its sculptural presence.
Lisa Johansson-Pape was known for her focus on functionality and craftsmanship, and this lamp is a perfect representation of her ability to combine simple geometric forms with subtle decorative details. The lamp’s clean lines, perforated patterns, and the interplay of brass finishes reflect Johansson-Pape’s thoughtful approach to design, creating a piece that is both visually appealing and highly functional.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition, with an attractive patina on the brass surfaces, consistent with its age. These signs of wear add to its character and charm, enhancing the overall vintage appeal of the piece.
The dimensions of the lamp are as follows: a diameter of 52 cm (20.5 inches) and a height of 115 cm (45.3 inches). This makes it an ideal size for larger rooms or as a focal point in a space, where it can serve as both a functional lighting fixture and a statement design element.
