Six "17-037" Wall Lamps by Lisa Johansson-Pape for Stockmann Orno, Finland 1960s

$ 8,550
  • Description
    This set of six "17-037” wall lamps designed by Lisa Johansson-Pape and produced by Stockmann Orno, represents the designer’s enduring influence on Finnish modern lighting. Johansson-Pape, one of Finland’s most important lighting designers, believed that lamps should be instruments of light rather than decorative distractions. Her work consistently emphasized functionality, material honesty, and atmospheric quality. These lamps exemplify that philosophy, combining clear geometry with warm illumination.

    Each lamp features a spherical opaline glass diffuser, designed to soften and disperse light evenly, creating a welcoming glow. The globe is mounted on a cylindrical metal base with a dark finish, offering a striking contrast to the luminous white of the glass. The material showcases the passage of time through the beautiful patina which further highlights each piece’s unique character. When lit, the opaline glass transforms into a glowing orb, perfect for creating ambiance. The spherical form embodies the clarity and purity central to Johansson-Pape’s work, while also reflecting the mid-century preference for modular and versatile designs. Their construction allows them to be mounted in groups or individually, making them highly adaptable to a variety of interior and outdoor contexts, from hallways and stairwells to larger public spaces.

    The design of this lighting model perfectly captures the essence of Stockmann Orno’s production in this era, where precision engineering met the Nordic pursuit of light as both a necessity and a source of beauty. They are a stylish representation of mature modernism that Finland has been a master of since the 19th century.
