Description
This pair of elegant, sculptural table lamps are distinctive pieces exemplifying Finnish designer, Mauri Almari’s artistic design language. Additionally to the aesthetic dimension, the quality of these lamps is also true to their Finnish heritage.
These model “K 11-21” table lamps have a classic, inherently stylish design that contemporary pieces still try to mimic. Like many of the decade’s designs, this duo of table lamps masterfully pairs materials and textures. As a result, the design has an essentially mid-century modern look thanks to the understated, but unique design choices. The defining feature of the “K 11-21” is undoubtedly the sculpted brass body with a teardrop shape. The polished surface shows off the brass’s beautiful patina, while the elongated necks enhance the thickness of the lower parts. The thin necks are also visual bridges connecting the cylindrical fabric shades to the bodies. The white fabric is an interesting material match with the brass, just like the shape. Instead of creating tension, the contrasting shapes and materials bring the design into perfect balance. The black lacquered sockets and twisted fabric cords add extra points of visual and material interest. These lamps are just as captivating from afar as they are up close.
One of the lamps has the manufacturer, Idman’s label engraved on it. The firm dates back to 1897. In 1953, Idman Oy acquired the majority of shares in Taito Oy, the company of Paavo Tynell. From then on, the company produced many of Finland’s most famous and coveted pieces by leading designers from the time.
