Description Extraordinary Art Nouveau table lamp in silver by Mogens Ballin (1871-1914), having a masterfully crafted undulating base similar in form to a Baroque baluster, ornamented with exuberant repousse ovals, waving lines, and raised bands; Denmark, 1900-1907; stamped artist hallmark, MBALLINS and S826 assay mark.

Well-traveled and an avid follower of artistic developments across Europe, painter Mogens Ballin was an early practitioner of Symbolism in and was an admirer of Gauguin and Cezanne. Increasingly interested in metal design, Ballin opened a silver-/metal-smith workshop in Copenhagen in 1900. Although sold off in 1907, his work influenced the next generation of designers, including Georg Jensen and Just Andersen who both trained in his workshop.

The lamp is in excellent condition with original harp, and is offered with new wiring including a new socket and cord.
