Description
This exquisite Art Deco chandelier was realized in Luneville, France by the celebrated Muller Frères, circa 1930. It features a hand blown concave domed shade replete with a wealth of warm fiery tones- honeys, marigolds and ambers with Smokey inflections- suggesting a vibrant sunset populated with clouds in the evening sky. The glass dome attached to a stylized acanthus leaf canopy (adorned with a sculptural pointed finial) via hourglass form neoclassical links- all in lustrous antiqued brass. Additionally, there are neoclassical stylized foliate supports that connect to the chain on the sides of the chandelier, also in antiqued brass. The chandelier has been newly rewired to American standards and is in excellent vintage condition. The height can be adjusted to suit. It accommodates three candelabra based bulbs offering up to 180 watts of light. The piece is signed "Muller Frères Luneville".
Muller Frères (Co.) was an esteemed French glassmaking company based in Luneville, France, famous for its Art Nouveau vases, and chandeliers, which often incorporate textural and colored glass. Their workshop was established by Henri Muller and his brothers in 1895 after training with the legendary glassblower Émile Gallé. In 1910, the company began making lamps in association with Chapelle and, at its height, employed around 300 workers, creating what would endure as some of the finest glass products of the era.
France, circa 1930
