Description
Step into the timeless elegance of Old Hollywood with this stunning pair of 1950s Murano Banana Leaf Glass Sconces—the kind of vintage glamour that feels right at home in the Beverly Hills Hotel or your own stylish sanctuary. These statement pieces aren't just lighting; they're art—measuring a stunning 21" tall by 10.5" wide. Singular banana leaves, gracefully stretching skyward in hand-blown, waffle-textured glass, each leaf curving just so at the tip, as if waving a playful "hello" to the room.
The detail is nothing short of masterful. Every vein, groove, and indentation on these sconces feels alive, mimicking nature with such precision you’ll swear they’d just been plucked from a tropical oasis. Two discreet sockets at the base hold bulbs that make these sconces glow from within, but the real showstopper? That gorgeous brass plate behind each leaf. Whether the lights are on or off, the warm brass peeks through the translucent glass, casting a golden hue that dances around the room. It's not just light; it's ambiance.
Adding to their charm are the brass standoffs that secure the leaves to the mounting brackets—each one with a beautifully aged patina that whispers, "I've seen things, darling." These are survivors of a bygone era, and they're free of any chips or damage, making them true relics of mid-century design. Whether your style leans traditional, Old glamorous Hollywood Regency, or leans into the sleek lines of modern or even Scandinavian vibes, these sconces effortlessly blend in, looking fabulous alongside a Maurice Rinck Art Deco buffet or a plush Scandinavian sheepskin chair. (As can be seen in the photographs).
About Murano glass—the heart and soul of these sconces. Born on the tiny island of Murano, just off the coast of Venice-- only accessable by boat. Murano glass has been synonymous with luxury and artistry for centuries. The glassblowers of Murano started honing their craft as far back as the 13th century, and it didn’t take long for their glass to become the most coveted in Europe. Their secret techniques, passed down through generations, allowed them to create masterpieces known for vibrant colors, stunning patterns, and expert craftsmanship.
Murano artisans pioneered many glassblowing techniques still revered today, like the famous Millefiori (those colorful flower-like patterns) and Sommerso (the art of layering colored glass). These sconces are a testament to that heritage, blending both the rich history of Venetian glassmaking with the glamour of mid-century design.
In a world full of mass production, these sconces are a breath of fresh, luxurious air—handmade, unique, and dripping with history. Whether they’re adding a warm glow to your entryway, or sparking conversations in your living room, these beauties are a reminder that glamour never goes out of style. -
