Description
This chandelier is full of personality, with unexpected details that make it unique. The mid-century modern design era was known for sleek lines with organic shapes, using new materials and methods to re-imagine traditional pieces, as this piece showcases.
This lamp brings together different materials and shapes to achieve a modern, yet timeless look. The piece is composed of a brass canopy anchoring the lamp to the ceiling, followed by a straight cylindrical stem, which supports the opal glass shades. The main visual element is the trio of shades crafted from matte white coloured glass, which allows light to envelop its surroundings without creating harsh shadows. The shades’ unique form is reminiscent of some designs of Stilnovo, thanks to the upward facing configuration. Furthermore, the shades look as though they are delicately placed against the stem, recalling a floral arrangement, thanks to the brass detailing and scalloped edges. These elements highlight the design prowess of the maker. Mid-century modern design hasn’t been bested by any other movement since its heyday, and it remains the style of our own time. This is because - as this ceiling lamp shows - the pieces in this style still look contemporary.
This model truly exemplifies the aesthetic of European mid-century lighting design, favouring unique shapes and forms. The delicate arrangement further accentuates the separate elements and the quality of the execution. Its streamlined modernism makes it an ideal addition to any interior style and space.
