Description
A beautiful and impressive Mid-Century Italian Modern brass chandelier from the 1970s, designed by Oscar Torlasco (1934–2004) in Italy.
This chandelier features two tiers with 15 arms and measures 23.5 inches in diameter. Crafted in brass, it is fitted with 15 light sources positioned behind rainbow-coated, iridescent optical crystal glass rings. These lenses create a striking shimmering rainbow effect on the glass itself, while also casting a wonderfully warm and inviting light throughout the room. We are generally cautious about calling pieces rare, but in this case we truly believe it applies. Having been in the business for many years, we have never come across another chandelier of this kind. It is certainly not a piece one finds easily. The chandelier is in very good condition, showing only minor patina—small spots on the brass that we prefer to regard as charming witnesses of time rather than flaws. The glass elements are undamaged. It measures 23.5 inches in diameter, with a total drop height of 28 inches, while the fixture itself is approximately 14 inches high. We are happy to adjust the drop height to your specifications at no additional cost.
Oscar Torlasco (1934–2004) was an Italian lighting designer renowned for his refined mid-century modern aesthetic. Educated in Milan, he became known for his innovative use of brass and optical glass lenses that created a distinctive light effect. Between the 1950s and 1970s, he designed remarkable chandeliers, sconces, and table lamps for leading Italian manufacturers including Lumi, Stilkronen, Esperia, Stilux, and Lamperti. In 1959 he received the prestigious Compasso d’Oro. -
