A rare first-edition Akari model H pendant lamp designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1951 and produced by Ozeki & Co. in Gifu, Japan. This tall, sculptural light features an elongated form with a central bulbous section, tapering into flared geometric ends. The shade is marked with the authentic early red "sun and moon" logo, distinguishing it from later re-editions. As a pioneering example of Noguchi's "light sculptures," this model represents a critical synthesis of traditional Japanese craft and mid-century avant-garde form.

Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988) was a Japanese-American artist and landscape architect whose career spanned six decades. Known for his ability to bridge Eastern and Western aesthetics, he integrated organic materials with industrial forms. His Akari series, begun in 1951, transformed the traditional Japanese Gifu lantern into a staple of modern interior design, viewing them as portable sculptures rather than mere home furnishings.

Materials:	Hand-folded washi paper shade with bamboo ribbing and a metal wire internal armature. Constructed using traditional Gifu lantern-making techniques.
Condition:	Good. The washi paper shows light, even oxidation and minor surface wear consistent with an early production piece. There are no major tears or structural compromises to the bamboo ribbing.
