Description
A pair of adjustable wall-mounted lamps, model 9414, designed by Paavo Tynell and manufactured by Taito Oy in Finland during the late 1940s - early 1950s. Each lamp features a brass wall bracket with an adjustable brass arm and a woven rattan shade, combining warm natural materials with elegant functionality. The organic character of the brass and rattan creates a soft and inviting atmosphere, making the lamps ideal as bedside reading lights as well as for living spaces or cottages where a cozy ambiance is desired.
The measurements listed are approximate due to the highly adjustable construction. The depth can vary from approximately 28 cm when folded to around 90 cm when fully extended.
Both lamps have been polished, lacquered and rewired, with updated electrical wiring. The rattan shades have been professionally renewed. Although offered as a pair, there are very minor and hardly noticeable differences between the lamps, such as the placement of the switch. Both examples are stamped.
Paavo Tynell (1890–1973) is among the most celebrated figures in Finnish lighting design and is often referred to as the man who “illuminated Finland.” After training as a metalworker and studying at the Central School of Applied Arts in Helsinki, he co-founded Taito Oy in 1918. Tynell became internationally renowned for his elegant brass lighting fixtures, characterized by refined craftsmanship and organic forms. His works were commissioned for numerous important public interiors, including the Finnish Parliament House, and today his rare designs are highly sought after by collectors worldwide. -
