Pair of English 19th Century Painted Iron Gothic Revival Period Lanterns
-
Description
English Gothic Revival painted iron single-light lanterns from the 19th century, priced and sold per pair. Two pairs are currently available. Made in England during the Gothic Revival movement, each lantern features a hexagonal body with pierced tracery motifs that recall the architecture of medieval cloisters and chapel stonework. The painted surface shows a softly weathered finish, where pale tones blend naturally with areas of rust and gilded highlights, creating depth and character without artifice. Each lantern is crowned with a sculptural finial that completes the vertical silhouette, while glass panels enclose a single bulb to provide gentle, atmospheric light. The proportions are slender and elegant, allowing the lanterns to fit effortlessly in both intimate and spacious interiors. Whether installed in a hallway, library, covered porch, or grouped in a dining space, these 19th-century English lanterns bring with them a quiet sense of history—one that feels lived-in, architectural, and understatedly grand.
