Pair of French Restauration Gilt Bronze Sconces
-
Description
Dimensions: 24” H x 14” W x 10 ¼” D
An absolutely dazzling and heavy gilt bronze wall sconces from the French Restauration period (19th century), capturing all the splendor and opulence of Neoclassical taste since the First Empire. The winged, caryatid-like figure standing above the three candle arms appears with outstretched wings and a branch of symbolic laurel in each hand. Her gown ripples with textural folds implying the drape of material; pattern that continues down to the exuberance of the acanthus decoration on each candle arm (for chandelier-base bulbs) extending from the torch on the backplate completed with a palmette finial at the tip. These former candle sconces have been adapted & electrified by a professional–adding the rectangular backplate–wired for US electrical using UL-listed parts. Please view the detailed images. Sold as a pair.
