French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 40” H x 22” W x 2 ⅜” D
A grand, 19th century French mirror of the Louis XVI taste, with incredible giltwood carvings over the green-painted back panel. At the top of the piece, foliate carvings of laurel and oak encircle a pair of lovebirds and a burning torch; the botanical theme carried down to the upper edges of the frame to soften the geometric rigidity of the pane. The mirror plate appears to be a modern replacement, the glass protected by a low, beaded chapelet (rosary) trim. At the lower corners are ornately carved feet, to lift and protect the delicate work.
