Pair of gilt bronze and enamel sconces in the Japonisme style

The sconces, or wall lights, in this pair are designed in the Japanese manner, the style—known as Japonisme—that was especially popular in France during the late nineteenth century. Each sconce features a rectangular gilt bronze backplate adorned with bright blue enamel, the backplate issuing three scrolled foliate light branches. Each branch terminates in a drip pan and candle holder that has been wrought from gilt bronze and beautifully adorned with coloured champlevé enamel. -
